Thali-Authentic Indian Food In Reno

For a while now I’ve been scouring The Biggest Little City In The World for some authentic Indian food, “Maa Ke Haath Ka Khaana” which is a Hindi phrase for “Mom-made Food.” And finally, after digging around for awhile, I stumbled upon Thali.

IMG_8668Thali offers 100% organic vegetarian food and an experience like no other Indian restaurant in Reno. Its authenticity comes from the owners’ vision of serving completely organic, locally grown food and deliver an authentic experience to their customers. Serj, one of the owners, has pushed the limits by learning and practicing organic farming for a year before stepping into the restaurant business. They buy most of their groceries from the Great Basin Community Food Co-Op , which sells locally-grown food and is community-owned. Continue reading “Thali-Authentic Indian Food In Reno”

Best Nightlife/ Late-Night Hangouts In Reno For Every Day Of The Week

The Biggest Little City In The World has a wide variety of nightlife choices for a relatively small city. Be it Downtown or Midtown Reno, the area brings heat with exotic dance clubs and matchless music venues, raising the bar, literally. Closing times are ambiguous. “Last call?” What is that? Around here, we call the shots!

Reno is on 24/7 and for many people sundown means that the day has just begun. Be it a weekday or weekends, things aren’t very different. Go dancing at clubs like Edge  or Lex featuring today’s hottest music, GoGo dancers and VIP bottle service; The Brew Brothers , located at the Eldorado Casino which is popping on almost any day of the week; or Aura Ultra Lounge, where you can dance the night away while sipping your favorite libations.

For a more low-key, laid-back nighttime experience, there are many options. Go to Chapel Tavern in Midtown or the classy Death & Taxes. For some local brews and lively crowds you could visit the Sierra Tap House, Brasserie Saint James, The Depot or the Great Basin Brewing Company which is also one of the popular places for food in Reno.

Maria’s : Authentic Mexican Food

Reno has come a long way from being just a crossing point of the Truckee river to becoming “The Biggest Little City In The World.” Reno’s nickname is a result of the wide range of cosmopolitan amenities in a city of its relatively small size. And a cosmopolitan city always invites more diversity, which in turn adds value to the city’s culture. Over the course of time, my goal is to try and explore as many cuisines in Reno as possible and map uncharted restaurants (google doesn’t count) so more people know about the awesome treats that Reno has to offer.

En route I-80 west, off Verdi, I stumbled upon a board that read “Maria’s Authentic Mexican Food.” I’ve tried Taco Bell, Del Taco and all these other fast fomariasod chains that offer “Mexican Food”, no offense, I do like what they offer, but trying the real deal’s been on my list for a while now. And what better place to run into than a family owned, locally run restaurant with the head chef himself being the owner of the place?

Shawarmageddon, Reno’s Very Own Shawarma Joint

Shawarma has always been one of my favorite wraps to binge on. For the Shawarma virgins, Shawarma (Arabic: شاورما‎ / ALA-LC: shāwarmā;) is a Levantine Arab meat preparation, where lamb, chicken, turkey, beef, veal, carabeeVertically_rotating_roasted_lambf, or mixed meats are placed on a spit , and may be grilled for as long as a day. Shavings are cut off the block of meat for serving, and the remainder of the block of meat is kept heated on the rotating spit. Shawarma can be served on a plate (generally with accompaniments), or as a sandwich or wrap.

When I was told that Reno has its very own Shawarma joint, that was it, Shawarmageddon  was my next place on the list.  Continue reading “Shawarmageddon, Reno’s Very Own Shawarma Joint”

Reno, The Biggest Little City In The World

Reno, the biggest little city in the world, more like the tallest midget? This “little city” has more to offer than one can imagine. Being a casino town, it never shuts down. It’s always full of life, be it downtown or around the University of Nevada,Reno . The only time that I have seen it slowing down a little is during the snow storms, which by the way, ends with painting the whole town white, the best time to experience Reno’s true beauty.

Surrounded by the Sierra Nevada, one can enjoy it’s scenic views from almost all parts of the city. Located less than an hour away from Lake Tahoe, perfect for a weekend getaway with your friends or family and less than 200 miles away from Sacramento, Oakland, San Francisco or San Jose to get some sun and enjoy the Californian weather. It’s location makes it even more prefect.
